The team then scored points in every race but one in the second half of the season.

The crescendo came at Spa-Francorchamps. At the Belgian Grand Prix, in very wet conditions, Hill took the Jordan team's maiden win — leading late in the race, with teammate Schumacher closing rapidly, before team principal Eddie Jordan ordered Ralf Schumacher to hold position rather than risk losing a historic one-two finish. It was, at once, the first grand prix victory in Jordan's history and the 22nd — and last — of Damon Hill's career. After a shaky start, the team had turned its fortunes around, and Hill swept to a splendid and historic win at Spa. The emotion in the paddock that afternoon was palpable. The team ultimately finished fourth in the Constructors' Championship with 34 points.

KAWASAKI 'DIAMOND ENGINE' PETROL-POWERED SEARCHLIGHT Circa 1960s–1970s | Japan

Long before Kawasaki became synonymous with motorcycles and heavy industry, its 'Diamond Engine' division produced compact two-stroke powerplants for agricultural and utility applications throughout the 1960s. The present lot represents one of the marque's most unusual creations: a fully portable searchlight driven not by battery or mains power, but by its own petrol engine — instant, untethered light, anywhere it was needed.

Such units found employment in an era before portable electrics were commonplace: illuminating improvised airstrips, signalling vessels along the coastline, and lighting remote worksites far from any power source. The concept — gloriously excessive by modern standards — speaks to a period of engineering when the solution to darkness was, quite simply, to bring an engine.

The unit comprises a Kawasaki KT-series single-cylinder two-stroke engine, its recoil starter housing finished in the marque's distinctive turquoise enamel and bearing the original 'Diamond Engine' roundel and Kawasaki nameplate. The engine drives a large-format lamp housed within a flared, horn-form reflector body in cream composite, crowned by a cast aluminium carrying handle. The original fuel tank, carburettor, and control fittings remain in place, and the housing retains a period dealer label from J. de Knegt N.V. of the Netherlands — a respected Dutch marine and industrial equipment supplier — suggesting continental service life consistent with coastal signalling use.

Examples of this type surface with extreme infrequency; at the time of cataloguing, no comparable unit could be located for sale anywhere on the open market.
