1988 Ayrton Senna race used Bell helmet

Regular price

This Bell XFM1 light weight helmet has been used extensively by Ayrton Senna during the 1988 F1 season.  The 1988 season has been Senna’s first Championship season in the McLaren MP4-4 Honda.

This exceptional helmet shows significant signs of wear. The radio has been removed, with the external mount remaining intact and the adhesive where the speaker was attached still visible inside. The drinking hole is fully intact and has been enlarged three times at Senna's request to allow a higher flow of water when needed. The internal strap is marked "88LW5," indicating it is a lightweight helmet from 1988, number 5 in the series. Ayrton Senna gifted this helmet to his physiotherapist, Jo Leberer, in 1989. Upon presenting it to Jo, Ayrton signed, dated, and included a personal message to his close friend.
