JACQUES LAFFITE
Original Race-Worn Helmet
Ligier JS27 • Formula One World Championship, 1986
Signed • “Gitanes / Loto” Livery

A superb and highly evocative original race helmet worn by Jacques Laffite during the 1986 Formula One World Championship, while competing for the Ligier team in the iconic blue Gitanes era.

This helmet is finished in the instantly recognizable Ligier factory colors, featuring a deep metallic green base complemented by the bold blue Gitanes visor band and prominent Loto branding across the crown. Additional period sponsor decals including Winfield, Pirelli, and elf are present, all consistent with race imagery from the 1986 season. The overall aesthetic perfectly captures one of the most distinctive liveries of mid-1980s Formula One.

Manufactured by GPA, a leading helmet supplier of the era, the helmet retains its original visor, fittings, and period-correct construction. The form and finish are entirely consistent with helmets used by Laffite during his final full Formula One season.

Importantly, the helmet is hand-signed by Jacques Laffite, adding a desirable personal element to an already significant race-used artifact.

The condition reflects genuine competition use, with visible patina including surface scratches, minor abrasions, and age-related wear to the paint and visor. These elements collectively enhance the authenticity and historical integrity of the piece, offering a true “as raced” presentation.

Jacques Laffite remains one of France’s most celebrated Formula One drivers, achieving six Grand Prix victories and becoming synonymous with the Ligier team. The 1986 season marked the closing chapter of his remarkable F1 career, making artifacts from this period especially meaningful to collectors.

A rare opportunity to acquire an original, race-used helmet from one of Formula One’s most charismatic drivers, presented in iconic team colors and signed for provenance.
