After Canada came the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City and Berger qualified on pole position with Patrese beside him and Senna third, Mansell fourth, Boutsen fifth and Alesi sixth. At the start, Patrese and Berger jumped Senna while Piquet got ahead of Boutsen and Mansell. Early on, Senna passed Patrese and Berger followed him through. Patrese was dropping back and Piquet got by him as well. Boutsen was the next to go through but at the same time Berger had a problem with his tyre and was forced to stop and dropped to 12th position. Senna lead from Piquet, Boutsen, Patrese, Mansell and Prost.
Soon, Mansell passed Patrese and got Boutsen four laps later as Prost did the same to Patrese. Prost sneaked ahead of Boutsen as Mansell closed in on Piquet. Mansell got ahead on lap 36 and Prost followed him through six laps later. Piquet soon stopped and dropped behind Nannini, Boutsen (who already stopped) and Berger. Berger passed Boutsen on lap 47 and Nannini four laps later. Prost passed Mansell on lap 55 and they began to close in on Senna. Prost, passed Senna followed by Mansell. Then Mansell spun but at the same time Senna got a puncture that let to him retiring in the pits 4 laps before the end and allowing Berger to get third and close in to Mansell. With a daring move Berger passed Mansell but Mansell charged back and attacked taking back second place after making an even more daring pass around the outside of Berger at the fastest corner on the track, the 180-degree Peraltada corner. Prost won with Mansell second making it a Ferrari 1–2 ahead of Berger, Nannini, Boutsen and Piquet.

1993 Elf Master Karting, Paris Ayrton Senna Go Kart front clip
Regular price
This incredible piece is the front clip of the Go Kart # 2 driven by Ayrton Senna during the 1993 Elf Master Karting, in Bercy / Paris / France. It has been hand signed and dated in blue marker by Ayrton Senna.
On that December weekend, fans were treated to the final competitive head-to-head between Formula 1 giants Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna. And, predictably, the pair took it very seriously: four-time world champion Prost having tested extensively before the event; Senna, a three-time title holder, having a kart shipped to Brazil so that he could practise.
The format for the two-day event organised by French racer Philippe Streiff, wheelchair-bound since a pre-season F1 testing accident in Brazil in 1989, pitted over 60 drivers – more than a dozen of them contemporary grand prix racers – against each other around a 600-metre circuit.
Young karting stars, including Danilo Rossi, Nicola Gianniberti, Miku Santavirta and Sebastien Enjolras, strutted their stuff on the first day, with Rossi coming out on top in their final.
But it was the team events that fans had really come to see. Following two qualifying sessions, teams were made up of three drivers (one F1 star from each of the two sessions and one karting youngster).
And with Senna and Prost joined by Philippe Alliot, Paul Belmondo, Eric Bernard, Andrea de Cesaris, Yannick Dalmas, Betrand Gachot, Jean-Marc Gounon, Olivier Grouillard, Damon Hill, Johnny Herbert, Pierluigi Martini and Olivier Panis, the fans were in for a treat.
In the first relay, the Prost and Senna squads both hit trouble with their 100cc karts, leaving the team led by Minardi ace Martini to win.
The finale promised one last hurrah for Prost and Senna. Sadly for fans, Ayrton’s kart broke as he was reeling in erstwhile leader de Cesaris. The Italian soon fell behind Prost, leaving the world champion to uphold local honour.
Senna, who twice finished runner-up in the world karting championship, later gave a group of journalists a few tips on how to master karting.
“You have to drive sideways because go-karts are small, short-wheelbased and very quick to react. You are always sideways at some stage of the corner so that you can position yourself better to get a feel for the grip. In that respect it’s very different from a racing car.
“In a racing car, if you try to lean on it you just slide and go off. In a kart you have to be hard and aggressive, but also precise. You use your body a little bit and normally your back suffers from the seat, especially if you haven’t been in one for some time.”

It is an incredible opportunity to own a piece of one of the most talented and succesful driver in F1 history.
Hamilton's success continued in 2008 as he amassed five victories and ten podium finishes. Including the impressive British Grand Prix victory, where he won the race by over a minute from second-place Nick Heidfeld, his drive was widely acclaimed as one of Formula One's finest wet-weather drives. As the season reached its conclusion in Brazil, it became a clear two-way fight for the title between the home favourite Felipe Massa and the young Briton. Hamilton won his first title in dramatic fashion in the last race of the season, the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix, overtaking Timo Glock for fifth position in the final corners of the last lap to become the then-youngest Formula One World Champion in history and to deny race-winner Massa the title by one point. This made Hamilton the first British driver to win the World Championship since Damon Hill in 1996.
