1987 F1 Season — Ayrton Senna

1987 marked Senna's final season with Team Lotus before his move to McLaren. Driving the Lotus 99T — the team's first car powered by Honda turbo engines and fitted with revolutionary computer-controlled active suspension — Senna competed in the distinctive new Camel yellow-and-blue livery, replacing Lotus's old black-and-gold John Player Special colors. He won at Monaco and Detroit, took pole position at San Marino, and set fastest laps at Monaco, Detroit, and Italy, finishing the season with six podiums in total. These remain the last Grand Prix victories ever achieved by the Lotus team. Senna ended the year third in the Drivers' Championship, a season strong enough to secure his move to McLaren for 1988 — where he would claim his first World Championship title.
